Your role

Reporting to the Head of Nursing, this role will assume responsibility for ensuring the provision of clinical services to patients receiving nursing and complex homecare services is first-class and aligned with the Company Mission:

“All patients, whether suffering from acute or chronic disease, should have equitable and timely access to complex injectable medicines in a setting of their choice”.

Working closely with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team the job holder will ensure that the services provided by them comply with the requirements of the Care Quality Commission Inspectorate, The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority, Care Inspectorate, best clinical practice and the legal and ethical requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council and ensuring compliance with the company’s policies and procedures.

Through regular and active communication and from the basis of an exceptional service the holder of this role will forge first class relationships with Pharmaxo key customers.

Duties and responsibilities

Specific to the Regional Nurse Manager role:

  • Maintain strong personal values and high level of integrity.
  • Conducts 1:1 meetings and Performance Development Reviews (PDRs) with members of the clinical nurse team, in-line with the company policy.
  • Carries out regular field visits with members of the nurse team, providing constructive feedback on all areas of their clinical work.
  • Be included on the on-call rota for out of hours service issues following required training.
  • Coordination of nurse visit scheduling according to nurse clinical competency.
  • Participates in the investigation and resolution of Complaints and Incidents where they specifically involve nursing services.
  • Performs regular audits of completed nursing documentation in conjunction with the Nursing Services Co-ordinator Team and Lead Nurses; providing feedback to the Head of Nursing.
  • Development, maintenance and delivery of Nurse Induction programme and participation in Company Induction for other departments.
  • Participates in the training and assessment of clinical competencies for new nurses and ongoing annual assessment for all nurses.
  • Ongoing review of clinical practices to ensure they are evidence based and in line with current practice.
  • Supports team members in registration revalidation.
  • Liaises with Head of Nursing to support clinical nurses to be an effective ‘link nurse’ for specific hospitals and services.
  • Providing support to nurse team colleagues who are undertaking a support and mentoring role with new starters.
  • Development and reviewing of clinical training packages for nurses ensuring there is a recognized sign-off process. This may involve working with outside agencies.
  • Deliver Pharmacovigilance, Information Governance and Complaints & Incidents training to nurses, as required.
  • Participate in Professional Development Reviews for self and provide timely performance feedback on clinical homecare nurses, as requested by the Head of Nursing.
  • Participates in Clinical Pathway Meetings to ensure specific service requirements and protocols are disseminated to the clinical nurse team.
  • Participate in national and regional tenders providing expert knowledge of disease area and requirements for excellent homecare services, as required.
  • Provides internal and external reports as requested.
  • Reviews and identifies current clinical processes seeking “Clinical Excellence” in the delivery of services proposing new methodology and working with internal stakeholders to deliver change management.
  • ​Deputises for the Head of Nursing during absence and when requested.

To continuously update nursing knowledge ensuring in line with current legislation and best practice:

  • To continuously update knowledge of specialty and disease areas and relevant publications.
  • To ensure continued professional development (CPD) is updated to ensure fitness for revalidation.
  • Contribution to the development and maintenance of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols to ensure they are fit for purpose and accurate.
  • To ensure their practice is compliant with the company’s policies and procedures.
  • To complete additional projects and tasks, short term or long term, and will be guided by the company value “Can it be better?”
  • Attend and participate in all team meetings.

​Administration of prescribed medicines to patients either in a clinic or out of hospital setting, predominantly the patient’s home:

  • ​To ensure all patient care and administration of prescribed medicines are provided to first class clinical and ethical standards and demonstrates best practice.
  • Support for clinical homecare nurses in clinical procedures across all services.
  • To provide education for patient/carers in the out of hospital environment as required.
  • To provide support and advice to patients, as appropriate.
  • Develop strong working relationships with the patients’ clinical teams within the secondary and primary healthcare settings, as appropriate.
  • To manage the interface between hospital services and other agencies in order to meet patients’ needs.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within an agreed area / distance from their home base.

Record Keeping:

  • ​To maintain accurate records of care and completion in a timely manner.
  • To assist in the recording/reporting of adverse events/incidents, including side-effects of therapy.
  • To report to and work closely with the Head of Nursing providing all appropriate communication in an agreed and timely manner.
  • To maintain your Outlook calendar in the agreed format ensuring clear visibility of activity.
  • Excellent time management skills providing a flexible service that meets company and patients’ needs.

Clinical Competency:

  • Experience in administration of a variety of suitable therapies for the clinical homecare setting.
  • To identify development needs with the Head of Nursing and ensure that these are addressed in agreed timelines.
  • To maintain all relevant clinical skills and attend regular updates.
  • To ensure continued professional registration, including meeting revalidation requirements.
  • To maintain self, nurse team and patient safety through the appropriate use of policies, protocols and guidelines.
  • To support and mentor new nurse team colleagues and provide feedback to the Head of Nursing to allow for the compilation of appropriate development plans.
  • To undertake appropriate training and participation in clinical trials work, where required.
