Meet Jody, Clinical Homecare Nurse at Pharmaxo Healthcare

Jody tells us about her role and how she enjoys the key part of her role – treating patients at home.

From ward to clinical homecare

After qualifying, Jody began her career as a community nurse before transitioning to work in an acute hospital within oncology. In 2024 Jody joined Pharmaxo Healthcare as a Clinical Homecare Nurse.

This journey – from ward to clinical homecare – is one that has allowed Jody to develop her skills and given her what she wanted from her nursing career – more one-on-one time with her patients. Jody brings a wealth of knowledge to her role.

The homecare aspect has been particularly rewarding for her, as it allows her to work in her ideal environment—one where she can focus entirely on providing personalised care to a single patient.

A Personalised Approach

Time management can be a challenge when treating at home due to external factors like traffic and the one-on-one nature of the visits. However, this personalised approach is also one of its greatest benefits.

Being able to focus entirely on one patient allows me to notice subtle changes in their health or demeanour that might go unnoticed in a busy hospital setting.

Interview with Jody

What drew you to joining Pharmaxo Healthcare?

I really enjoy working in the community and I have developed more interest in oncology and SACT administration as my career has progressed. This job has both components which the NHS does not provide.

It is however an essential service to support the NHS and the individuals that rely on its care. Home care nursing offers a deeply personal and effective way to deliver treatment. It allows patients to feel more at ease while fostering strong connections that enhance the quality of care. For me, being part of this process is an honour and a reminder of why I love nursing.

What keeps you going to work every day?

The individuals that I meet! I have got to know many patients (and their pets!) that I treat and therefore it is a positive working environment where I am able to give my undivided attention to somebody. Also, my colleagues, whether that is other nurses, planning team, IT team, pharmacy team etc. are all very supportive and approachable.

What do you do outside of Pharmaxo Healthcare?

I like to make tapestries, and I also help to support my disabled brother. I spend a lot of time in nature (especially foraging), spending time with my close friend (we have recently discovered karaoke) and looking for new music to listen to, some of which has been recommended to me by colleagues and patients!

What would you say to someone thinking of taking a job at Pharmaxo Healthcare?

I would say that if someone is looking for a role with autonomy, the opportunity to build strong rapport with patients and a working day that is never the same twice, then go for it.
